Dissolution seeks to question expectations around the body through an evolving game environment where visual feedback modulates form and agency in real time. Blurring the boundary between prop and being, the assets within the world assert their themselves not as passive assets, but rather unstable entities by being simultaneously object, avatar, and mirror.

Ideation & Research
This project first started as an expansion of my previous project Limerence, which was a procedural, walkable world. I wanted to explore themes of agency and refusal, as player’s gestures alter the physical environment. I also wanted to abstract how one can visualize space and memory.
Some notes on process:
What does it mean to be able to look around a cloud of memories?
Alternative forms of interaction or choice with gesture control and physical game controller
Then began to experiment with datamoshing and TouchDesigner, drawn to physicality/wrestling
Looked into projection mapping and Krzysztof Wodiczko’s work
Second try at TouchDesigner with Unreal integration, ran into some problems
Solution: Game/controller integration within TouchDesigner
Technical Details
Built in TouchDesigner, gesture recognition available with MediaPipe add-on
Player is able to modulate the environment in terms of morphing from rectangular to more organic blob forms
Controller input is used to navigate the space, providing a FPOV
Distance between left index finger and thumb is using to control shape morphing, the right hand controls dithering and glow VFX
